WordCamp Iloilo on the Dengue Outbreak

You’ve been asking, and we heard you. So, is there anything about the dengue outbreak that WordCamp Iloilo attendees should be concerned about?

Well… if we’re going to be blunt about it, NO. From what the government announcements say so far, the areas with the highest recorded dengue cases are in Pototan, Passi, and Calinog — towns that are way north of Iloilo City.

In addition, the reason why a state of emergency was declared by the provincial government is to enable quicker “emergency purchases of medicines, dengue kits and intravenous fluids” in case a real outbreak would be happening for real. If that isn’t enough, village leaders in both the cities and provincial towns have been conducting “anti-dengue drive” cleanups every weekend to ensure that those little mosquito buggers won’t have anywhere to breed!

But, as our elders say: you never can tell when something bad is about to go down. So, here are some quick tips to keep in mind in case you don’t want to get dengue’d:

  1. Stagnant water is primo breeding ground of mosquitoes. So, if you happen to stay in a place where large pools of water have accumulated outdoors, ask the hotel management or the landowner to throw them out.
  2. Mosquito repellent lotions are available in select groceries and pharmacies. Off!, in particular, is a brand that the locals themselves often use.
  3. Close doors and windows (or just make sure that there are screens installed on them), particularly during dusk. This is the period of the day where mosquito activity is at its peak.

We hope these tips are enough to calm your mind prior to attending WordCamp Iloilo. See you this August! Tickets are selling like hotcakes so get yours now before it’s too late.

Call for Sponsors

WordCamp Iloilo 2019 is looking for generous sponsors to support the growth of the local WordPress community!

WordCamp is a non-profit event so we rely on funding from sponsors to make the event a success. Any contribution that you provide for our community will both help make WordCamp Iloilo possible and get your brand in front of the passionate type of people who should know about it – the type who go to events on weekends to talk shop. Our attendees include designers, developers, bloggers, small business owners, entrepreneurs, educators, and students from throughout the Iloilo Province and across the country. In order to drive costs down for our attendees, we look to sponsors to help make WordCamp part of this thriving open-source community.

Please read through our packages below to see if there is a sponsorship package that is suitable for your organization. (Download our Prospectus and Sponsor Information)
